I have painted in spurts off and on for years, but when I discovered iconography in 2012, I became fascinated. There is much more to the work than just painting; it is a spiritual practice as well. I tried my hand on my own a couple of times, but was fortunate last summer to have taken a workshop with Ksenia Pokrovsky and her crew from Hexaemeron. It changed my life and my artistic direction. I seldom do any work other than icons now, and though I still consider myself a rank amateur, I give it my all. These works are executed in an atmosphere of quiet and prayer which I hope will come out in the work in due time. Egg tempera is my medium of choice for these pieces, but I do work more than I like to in acrylics. Egg tempera forces me to slow down and be patient, which is a very good thing for a classic wired Type A.
I am also an avid photographer. My dad was a pro, and the camera bug must be genetic. I love digital photography.
